You plan, make lists, buy things, book vendors, laugh, cry, hire vendors, read books (& blogs 🙂 and the day has finally arrived!! It’s going to be perfect, right? Hopefully, yes, but occasionally a few things do not go according to plan. Here are a few scenarios we have experienced at weddings.
- Wardrobe malfunction… yep the zipper on the mom’s dress got stuck in the fabric of the dress and jumped right off the track. No going up or down was going to happen. I popped my head in the dressing room to see if she was ready for getting ready pics and she was in a panic and did not want her daughter to know. As a photographer I was ready. In our camera bag is always a small sewing kit. You guessed it, lol. I sewed her right into that dress and no one ever guessed! So, just in case we are not your photographers (But we’d love to be) you may want to have a sewing kit on wedding day and someone on hand that knows how to use it! In that kit have needles, thread in white, ivory, black and the color of your bridesmaid’s dresses, scissors, and a crochet hook… (it’s the magic answer on how to button all those elastic loops on your dress).
- Internet not working at the venue. This really happened and the DJ was not prepared! They were unable to download any tunes for the dancing and they had not done this before the big day. Get your list of favorite music to your DJ way before wedding day and make sure that they prepare and have the tunes downloaded before they arrive to set up.
- Bartender with no permit means no serving of any drinks. If your planning to have alcohol at your reception, make sure the venue and bartender have taken care of business before the big day. We’ve seen this happen. No permit meant the bar was closed. When did this happen? Right after the ceremony during our photos… the bride had to deal with this detail… make sure it’s done beforehand so the celebration starts on time.
- Rain… for an outdoor ceremony. If your venue doesn’t have an alternative ceremony site, have a backup plan if rain is threatening to douse the day. However, don’t let it ruin the day! We have taken some super wow rain shots!
- Power outage at the venue during the get ready time. We actually helped the bride and her team of makeup and hair professionals by letting them use our SUV…lol. We have a power plug and it saw lots of usage for power hair tools.
Just keep in mind…Unexpected things may happen, but at the end of day you will be married to your true love. Plan for what you can and just enjoy the day, no matter what!
